The next adventure we sought out was Talafofo Falls. This was a little bit further of a drive as it was on the other side of the Island.
These are all the flags of the countries that frequent this place the most
Wall Mural of Sergeant Yokoi's cave (More on him later in the post)
We started the journey on a cable car that took you atop the jungle and over the 1st of two waterfalls
This was not the falls - These are the little one before the big drop off
Waterfall 1
Waterfall 2
We exited the cable car and headed down the stairs toward the second falls, museum, and the cave
CJ was a bit afraid to walk on this bridge at first -Too Shaky he says
My little flower
Guam History Museum
This museum was pretty cool. Very small but very informative. It basically was an illustrated history of the existence of Guam stating with the native people's, Ferdinand Magellan's discovery, the Spanish claiming the territory, American's coming in, WWII , and liberation.
All of the walls were hand painted depicting the history. Even the ceilings wee painted
The pictures do not do them justice but there was so much detail in the paintings
Below is a sculpture of Japanese straggler soldier Sergeant Yokoi. When the liberation of Guam happened in 1944 Yokoi and 2 other Japanese soldiers went into hiding in the jungle. The 3 men hid for 20 years living until 2 died in 1964. Yokoi was still alive and on his own for 8 more years surviving off coconuts, shrimp, frogs, snails, and other tropical vegetation. He was caught by two hunters and returned to Japan were he is considered to be a national hero
This is an above ground replica of Yokoi's Cave, It is crazy to think that this man survived 28 years in this. I had Ash get in there to have some kind of scale. She can't stand upright.
This is the entrance to his actual cave. We can't enter it in fear that the preservation with be destroyed
Hehe... this made me giggle... This is the monorail :-) It seriously looked like it was run by a chainsaw or lawn mower motor and folding chairs are tied down to make seats - We did not ride on this
Up close and personal with waterfall 1
This delightful image is the Ghost House. Once you walk past the golden statues a Dracula sounding voice come over the speakers ans starts talking spooky, Ash flipped out. She had enough. Not going any further. Will went through the house with Mike. Ash and CJ lost all sorts of their mind saying that the monsters got them and they were not coming back :-) When the boys returned in one piece, Ash conjured up all her "bravery" and said she wanted to go in the house. She covers her ears and heads down the stairs staying "I can do this... I am brave" - She makes it past the statues and the Dracula voice breathing very heavy. I asked her if she was sure she wanted to go in and she said yes. We get 10ft through the doors and she is still carrying on with "i can do this i can do this" then turns around shouting "This is a bad idea!" and hauls out the door back to Will :-) I laughed - Her reasoning is amazing!
