I last left you in Copenhagen and we were boarding our cruise ship the next day to set sail on the Baltic Sea for 9 nights. AMAZING!!! Cruising is not for everyone but it works for us. Good way to see places you otherwise wouldn't as well. We did a 9 night Baltic Capitals cruise that took us from Copenhagen to Berlin, Germany - Tallinn, Estonia - St Petersburg, Russia (2 days) - Helsinki, Finland - and Stockholm, Sweeden - then back to Copenhagen where we flew back home.
These stops allowed for ample time to actually get out and see the city. The only city we did a organized tour was Berlin, and that was a "loose" tour actually which I will explain in the next post. We basically survived on a book about Northern European Cruise Ports by Rick Stevens and an app called City Maps 2 Go. Thanks Jessica and Hannah!!! These two items were so useful. We downloaded the maps to each city and marked all the placed we wanted to see. We did not need internet to use the app. The "location" function on the phone always showed us where we were so we basically used the app as an old fashioned map and directed our selves throughout the city to the marked locations. Super handy!!! We also read up on the ports the night before so we already new what buses or trains we needed to get on and where stuff was in relation to the different piers we could pull into. It was interesting to see other people carrying this same book around while in the cities. I had to pull it out and reference it a time or two. Doing these cities on our own was much better than the tours. We actually saw more and moved at our own pace.
Our Ship ~ Norwegian Star
So now on to the boat! We cruised with Norwegian Cruise Line and it was great. We had a two bedroom suite so we could all fit in one room.
Because we stayed in a suite we had concierge and butler service. Didn't use concierge hardly at all but man... that butler was great!!! When we embarked, we were treated to a lunch in one of the specialty restaurants because of the the suite while we waited for our room to be ready.
Top photo is entering our room. The door way to the left is the entrance to the kids room. Bottom photo is kids room. They had their own bathroom with shower, sink, toilet on left.
The blue couch pulls out into a queen sized bed and there is a single bunk that pulls down. Ash slept up there mostly. She informed me that the boys move around too much!
Here is the living area. Again the couch folds out into another bed but this is a single. I am standing at the mini bar taking this photo which is pictured below. Our butler kept us stocked with all sorts of goodies!!! The doorway on the left is the entrance to our room.
Here is our bathroom complete with a spa bathtub with jets, double sink, standalone shower and toilet. Great bathroom!! Below is our bed. Those blackout curtains came in handy when we got past St. Petersburg where the sun did not ever set. Light out all the time!!
And of course... The balcony
We explored the ship for a bit and watched as we pulled away from Copenhagen at 5pm. The next morning we were in Berlin and it was an EARLY start so we got to bed at a fairly reasonable time.
He spent lots of time in that chair watching the water and playing his Kindle :-) When did he grow so fast!!
Next Stop... BERLIN!!
