Well not really the hike from hell but if you ask the children what they thought, I am pretty sure they would tell you that we tried to kill them. Michael told me this was worse than Guam when we got lost looking for a waterfall :-) Kid has a memory like an elephant!!!
We LOVE the great outdoors, hiking, nature, all that jazz... and I am of the mindset that if you start introducing activities like this to kids at a young age they will begin to like and eventually love the hobbies of their parents (which would be awesome!) - So once again we sent them on a hiking mission with us.
I kick myself in the butt daily for not making it out to the Blue Mountains when we were in Australia but I guess that makes reason #1425 of why we need to go back to the "Land Down Under"
I did tons of research on hiking trails around Singapore, surprisingly there are quite a few ! We went to the MacRitchie Nature Preserve and what interested me about this place is that there is a TreeTop Walk bridge up over the rainforest. The site said the TreeTop trail was 4.4KM - Okay.... that's more than doable for my kids. 3 miles is nothing to them. I was WAY wrong.... It was 4.4KM from the start of the trail until we reached the TreeTop bridge...... Oh boy..... Can the kids handle more than doubling the distance??? The overly ambitious parent says "SURE THEY CAN" - When all was said and done we had hiked almost 7 miles in the rainforest.
Lots of runners in the area - It kind of reminded me of Memorial Park in Houston.
You can rent Kayak's and other water activities. Seemed like a pretty cool place
And the hike begins with smiles on their faces
Through the forest - It was nice to not have he sun beating down on us
CJ started to complain early
She has acquired a walking stick - My happy family!
We already committed to the 7 miles at this point. We were debating weather to turn around or continue. There was an off trail that wrapped back to the beginning that we could have jumped on but we opted to continue on
CJ hitched rides most of the time
We made it to the Tree Top!
Oh ya know... just the average monkey walking around
It was pretty up there!
And know the journey begins.... I was even tired by now
But first lets strike a pose!
The occasional nature shot to take my mind of the blisters under my toes :-)
And that's a wrap! Lots of tears at the end, lots of complaining, whining, fussing, dying....... but we made it! Kids lasted 5 miles and complained the rest of the way. Came back tot he hotel and took a big nap!
